ConeHead

I am sure I am not alone when I say I have a major case of the winter blahs. It's just that time of year. The magic of snowflakes quickly dims once Christmas is crossed off the calender, and the temps dip into the below zero range for weeks at a time. Spring...all we want it spring. But, the song birds are not singing yet, and won't be for at least 45 days, so we have to tolerate Jack Frost's presence (or move).

The winter blahs also put my in a photography rut. There just is not a whole lot of ambition this time of year. Blame it on the weather, the date on the calendar, or the lack of daylight, it's just difficult to find the gumption to go for a hike with the camera. But all hope is not lost. Sometimes inspiration comes in small packages (and when you are not expecting it). For instance, heading back to the office after lunch, this teeny black spruce cone caught my attention as I was pulling out of the driveway. With a fresh dusting of snow and some cloudy sun rays filtering through the spruce boughs, I snapped a photo.

It's the small things in life.
