Meet The Wilsons

At least once a week I journey down Boot Creek. This time of year the wildlife is abundant, especially the water fowl. I have learned, the hard way, that bird photography (of the water fowl variety) are very camera shy. You bat an eyelash and they fly away--far away.

For some reason or another, these two didn't see me or my bright blue kayak right away and stayed put (albeit for about 30 seconds).

It took them about .05 seconds to fly away from me while it took me close to a half hour going through the three different bird books I have to identify them.

They are Wilson Snipes. I have never seen them before and if you are not looking close enough they blend right into the landscape.

I should have been an ornithologist.
