All in all it has been a mild winter in northern Wisconsin. The temperatures were manageable and the snow accumulation enough to make outdoor enthusiasts happy. And with the easy-going winter comes the anticipation of an early spring which, for those of us with major cases of cabin fever, can't get here early enough. Then came the snow storm of the year (hell, maybe the storm of the decade).
It began Tuesday night and by Wednesday morning AT LEAST 12 inches of snow had littered the landscape. And it was not done. By day's end we had 20 inches of snow everywhere. It was chaos. Our quaint town was shut down: schools, coffee shops, diners...the town came to a standstill. (I don't think the mail was even delivered ). For someone desperate for spring to arrive, this Leap Day blizzard was just--well--disheartening.
But you should always try and find the silver lining in a icky situation(that is what my husband says); on this day it was the fact I got a snow day which I had not had since I was a freshman at Northern Michigan University in 1999.
I spent the day knitting a wool hat and drinking peppermint tea, leaving the snow removal to my hubby.
